Tahun 1824 Malang mempunyai Asisten Residen

Tahun 1882 rumah-rumah di bagian barat Kota di dirikan dan Kota didirikan alun-alun di bangun.

1 April 1914 Malang di tetapkan sebagai Kotapraja

8 Maret 1942 Malang diduduki Jepang

21 September 1945 Malang masuk Wilayah Republik Indonesia

22 Juli 1947 Malang diduduki Belanda

2 Maret 1947 Pemerintah Republik Indonesia kembali memasuki Kota Malang.

1 Januari 2001, menjadi Pemerintah Kota Malang

BWK Malang Tengah, meliputi wilayah Kecamatan Klojen. Fungsi utama yaitu pemerintahan, perkantoran, perdagangan dan jasa, sarana olahraga, pendidikan dan peribadatan.

BWK Malang Utara, meliputi wilayah Kecamatan Lowokwaru. Fungsi utama yaitu pendidikan, perdagangan dan jasa, industri besar/menengah dan kecil serta wisata budaya.

BWK Malang Timur Laut, meliputi sebagian wilayah Kecamatan Blimbing. Fungsi utama yaitu terminal, industri, perdagangan dan jasa, pendidikan dan sarana olah raga.

BWK Malang Timur, meliputi wilayah sebagian Kecamatan Kedungkandang. Fungsi utama yaitu perkantoran, terminal, industri dan sarana olahraga.

BWK Malang Tenggara, meliputi wilayah sebagian Kecamatan Sukun dan sebagian Kecamatan Kedungkandang. Fungsi utama yaitu perdagangan dan jasa, Sport Centre (GOR Ken Arok), Gedung Convention Center, industri, dan perumahan.

BWK Malang Barat, meliputi wilayah sebagian Kecamatan Sukun. Fungsi utama yaitu perdagangan dan jasa dan pendidikan.
